In the auto parts manufacturing industry, the loading and unloading of radiators have long relied on manual labor. This approach often leads to low efficiency and high error rates. Empowered by the self-developed Epic Eye Laser L V2S 3D industrial camera, Transfer Technology has successfully delivered a dual-station intelligent material handling system, enabling highly precise "see-and-pick" automated operations.
Project Background
This application focuses on car radiator depalletizing. The radiators come in various specifications and are stacked on pallets without dividers between layers. The vision system is required to identify the position and pose of the radiators, guiding the robot to pick and place them onto a conveyor line.
Key challenges include:
High Workpiece Variance: Multiple radiator models with significant size differences require rapid adaptation.
Tight Stacking: The absence of dividers makes edge detection highly difficult.
Environmental Interference: Variable ambient lighting on the factory floor can cause reflections and shadows.
Our Solution
The project adopts a dual-station layout. A single Epic Eye Laser L V2S 3D camera is mounted on a linear module, allowing it to cover two pallet stations alternately. Upon receiving commands from the PLC, the camera quickly captures point clouds to recognize the radiator's position and pose. It then sends the picking coordinates and path to the robot control system to achieve fully automated depalletizing.
Workflow:
· Operators deliver a full pallet of radiators into the camera's field of view.
· The linear module moves the camera above the pallet. The PLC sends the current radiator model data and triggers the image capture.
· The camera identifies the pose, then forwards the coordinate data to the robot via the PLC.
· The robot picks up the radiators and places them onto the conveyor line.
· The process repeats until the pallet is empty, after which the camera automatically switches to the other station.
Technical Highlights
The successful deployment of this 3D vision depalletizing solution not only eliminates the core pain points of traditional methods but also brings tangible value upgrades to drive high-quality business development.
Ultimate Precision and Stability
The Epic Eye Laser L V2S 3D camera delivers an impressive positioning accuracy of ±0.5mm. Utilizing a blue laser light source, it effectively suppresses ambient light interference and captures clear point clouds even under intense lighting or from reflective workpiece surfaces.
Ultra-High Recognition Rate and Efficient Cycle Time
A recognition rate of ≥99.9% ensures long-term stable operation. The entire process cycle time is easily controlled within 6 seconds, perfectly matching the pace of high-speed automated production lines.Open and Easy to Integrate
The camera communicates with the PLC via TCP/IP Socket and is fully compatible with mainstream robot brands. The system supports swift switching between multiple product specifications. This allows for the rapid introduction of new workpieces on-site, ensuring excellent flexible production capabilities.
Characterized by high precision, industrial-grade stability, and ease of integration, Transfer Technology's industrial cameras have become a reliable core engine for smart manufacturing in the auto parts industry.
Moving forward, we will continue to innovate our 3D vision technology, empowering more enterprises to achieve efficient and reliable intelligent loading and unloading upgrades.
