In traditional industrial scenarios, the handling and stacking of refractory bricks have long relied on manual labor. High labor intensity, efficiency fluctuations, and inconsistent stacking precision are key pain points that limit production capacity and quality.
Facing this challenge, a large refractory material enterprise turned to automation upgrades. However, the irregular brick surfaces, mixed brick types on the same line, and complex lighting and reflective environments imposed stringent requirements on the recognition stability and positioning accuracy of the vision system.
Project Challenges
Before introducing automation solutions, the refractory brick stacking process of the enterprise faced three core challenges: Diverse brick types and random orientations Long bricks, sloped trapezoidal bricks, flat trapezoidal bricks, and other specifications coexisted, with random orientations in the bin. Traditional 2D vision struggled to stably identify their 3D poses. Severe reflective interference The steel surface of the loading pallet caused strong reflections, easily leading to image overexposure, loss of key features, and 'missed detection.' Stringent cycle time and accuracy requirements The production line demanded efficient continuous operation; the vision system had to complete high-precision positioning within seconds and maintain long-term stability, as any fluctuation would directly impact output.
Solution
Addressing the above challenges, we provided a vision-guided solution centered on Migrate Technology's Epic Eye Laser L 3D industrial camera.
The core of this solution is the deep integration of high-precision structured light 3D imaging with proprietary AI recognition algorithms. High-precision 3D reconstruction, penetrating reflective interference The Epic Eye Laser L uses high-precision structured light 3D imaging technology to quickly acquire complete point clouds of refractory bricks. Through optical and algorithm optimization, it effectively suppresses reflective interference from metal pallets, ensuring information integrity and reliability under complex industrial lighting. AI deep learning empowerment, achieving highly reliable recognition Using deep learning template matching algorithms, the feature library of brick types is enhanced through training. The system adaptively segments and recognizes the precise contours and surface orientations of different brick types, effectively solving the problems of missed and false detections common with traditional algorithms in complex scenes. Deep hardware-software synergy, optimizing cycle time extremes We adopted an 'eye-in-hand' installation mode, cleverly leveraging the robot's motion for image capture, achieving parallel processing of vision and robot motion. The total time for the vision system to complete single image acquisition and pose calculation is controlled within 4 seconds, without occupying the overall production cycle.
Customer Value
Through the deployment of Migrate Technology's 3D vision system, this project achieved significant improvements in efficiency and quality: Precise and reliable: The recognition/grasping accuracy for all three brick types reaches ±2 mm, fully meeting the process requirements for high-precision stacking. Stable and efficient: The AI algorithm effectively overcomes on-site reflections and other interferences, maintaining a recognition rate consistently at a high level of 99.9%. Fast vision processing ensures smooth production line operation. Flexible adaptation: One system seamlessly handles multiple brick types, providing strong flexibility for future product line expansion.
'Stable, precise, and easy to integrate' became the customer's most direct evaluation of this cooperation. This project not only eliminated manual labor but also laid a solid foundation for the customer's digital management and quality control through data consistency and process traceability.
The success of the refractory brick depalletizing project is not an isolated case. It clearly confirms a trend: in the transformation and upgrading of many traditional manufacturing industries, high-precision 3D vision systems are changing from 'optional' to 'mandatory.'
Migrate Technology's focus remains on solving these specific and real problems through solid technology. We will continue to deepen the integration of 3D vision perception technology with industrial processes, striving to make our cameras and algorithms the most stable and trustworthy 'eyes' and 'brains' in more industrial sites, helping customers move steadily towards intelligent manufacturing.
