Project Background
This application scenario is the depalletizing of automotive radiators: radiators come in various specifications, stacked on pallets without separators between them. The site requires the vision system to identify the pose of radiators, guiding the robot to pick them up and place them onto a conveyor line. Main challenges include: - Large workpiece variation: multiple radiator models with varying dimensions, requiring quick adaptation; - Tight stacking: no separators, making edge detection difficult; - Environmental interference: variable lighting on site, potential reflections and shadows.
Solution
The project adopts a dual-station layout: one Epic Eye Laser L V2S 3D camera is installed on a mobile module, capable of covering two pallet positions sequentially. Upon receiving PLC commands, the camera quickly captures point clouds, identifies the position and orientation of radiators, and sends the gripping point information to the robot control system, enabling fully automatic depalletizing.
Workflow: - Manual transport of full pallets of radiators into the camera's field of view; - The mobile module moves the camera above the pallet; the PLC sends the current radiator model and triggers image capture; - The camera identifies the pose and transmits coordinate information to the robot via PLC; - The robot grabs the radiator and places it onto the conveyor line; - Repeat until the pallet is empty, then the camera switches to the other pallet.
