Home Appliance Production Line | Transfer Technology 3D Vision-Guided Evaporator Handling

As a core component among the four core refrigeration parts, evaporators require regular conveyance to subsequent stations during home appliance assembly. Driven by continuous progress in automated, digital and intelligent manufacturing, deploying 3D vision systems to guide robotic arms for evaporator handling serves as an effective solution for manufacturers constructing smart factories.

3D Vision Supports Home Appliance Production Lines

Automated Labor Replacement for Notable Throughput Improvement

A leading large home appliance manufacturer has deployed Transfer Technology’s proprietary 3D vision system to guide robotic arms for evaporator handling. The intelligent automated system takes over heavy manual work, lowering operators’ labor intensity and factory labor expenditure while delivering clear gains in line throughput.

Stable Operation & Automatic Workpiece Orientation Recognition

Address Three Key Production Challenges for Clients

◦ Cross-stacked evaporators Evaporators are placed in staggered stacked layouts, bringing difficulties to stable identification.

◦ Strenuous manual work & labor shortage Manual handling involves high physical workload, recruitment difficulties and suboptimal line throughput.

◦ Strict cycle performance requirements Continuous assembly line operation imposes high standards on production cycle speed and operational stability.

Eye-Hand Coordination Delivers Higher Operational Throughput

Solution Components: 3D Camera + Software + Robotic Arm

This project adopts the Epic Eye D-L 3D camera paired with Epic Picking software, matched with robotic arms and custom end grippers for full automated operations.

The Epic Eye D-L camera serves as the visual perception unit of the system to capture workpiece data; Epic Picking software functions as the core processing unit for target recognition and motion guidance; the robotic arm acts as the execution unit to pick workpieces and complete subsequent handling.

The system completes the full workflow including vision detection, guided picking and precise positioning within approximately 8 seconds. Its adjustable, smooth and tight operation cycle brings notable improvements to line throughput.

Alternating Dual-Station Operation Delivers Double Throughput

Single Camera for Dual Stations: Around 50% Reduction in Equipment Expense

◦ Automated Manual Labor Replacement The 3D vision-guided robotic system performs evaporator pick & handling, removing the need for on-site manual intervention.

◦ Automatic Workpiece Orientation Detection Stably identify cross-stacked workpieces regardless of placement angle, supporting rapid task switching and smooth continuous operation.

◦ Optimized Line Cycle Performance Alternating dual-station layout maintains tight operation cycles and avoids downtime or waiting delays on the production line.

◦ Single Camera Covers Two Working Zones Mounted on a mobile module, one single 3D camera serves both stations, bringing roughly 50% cut in overall equipment expenditure.
